Rockhampton

A couple of weekends ago we went up to Rockhampton to celebrate Mavis (Zane's Grandma's) 90th birthday. There were about 20 who made the trip.

We decided to drive up and make a long weekend of it as Zane was keen to test out his new Hummer on the open road. It's great to travel in, very comfortable.

This is the only photo I have of the Hummer unfortunately (pity about the rubbish bin!)

On our way up we stopped at Moura where Zane's Mum is currently based while her partner Ian drives the big rigs in the mines. We had a lovely afternoon tea at her place and then went to the nearest town, Biloela, and checked into The Palms Motel and had a fantastic dinner there with Ann (Ian had to sleep as he had an early shift).

We hit the road early the next day and arrived in Rocky mid-morning. Unfortunately Liam had picked up a virus and had taken a turn for the worse over night so we were very battle-weary after a long unsettled night (all in the same room). Luckily all that car travel forced him to relax and sleep it off. It was a very nasty bug though and both Zane and I came down with it after we got home. At least that's out of the way before number two arrives!!!

Anyhoo, the lunch was a great success. Mavis is very sharp for her 90 years and still has a wonderful sense of humour. She had the table laughing merrily with her antics. Liam slept through it all in the corner, doped up on a cocktail of Demazin, nurofen and panadol ........

Me, Penny (Brent's g'friend), Lorraine (Zane's aunt), Sarah (cousin), Jacki (step-MIL) and Chae (sister).

Zane put together a really nice photo album for Mavis and she loved it.
We were planning on stopping in Hervey Bay for a night on the way home to do some whale-watching, but with Liam's condition we decided it would be best to drive directly home on the Sunday morning. It was an 8 hour drive but with the Hummer to travel in it was very pleasant. I even got behind the wheel for 3 hours! We stopped for the world-famous crab sandwiches in Miriamvale (highly recommended) and had a quick lunch in Gympie followed by a play at the duck pond park (Zane fondly reminisced about happy childhood afternoons spent there). All in all it was a great weekend.
